From Dr. Lancaster’s own description of this event:
“Buddhist teachings warn against attachment or grasping things in order to possess them. The solution would seem to be “detaching” or “detachment.” For many, detachment is seen as indifference and they are resistant to the application of such a practice to family, friends, and sentient beings. Is it possible to have detachment with those we hold dear without alienation and distancing ourselves? How can one have empathy for others without kindness and affection? Can detachment truly be a high level of spiritual and emotional attainment?”
