What is it like being a Chaplain right now in the midst of this global pandemic?
Buddhist Chaplains in the Field: A Panel
Moderated by Rev. Jitsujo Gauthier, Ph.D.
“This is such a confusing time for all of us. A time which is also providing us an opportunity to practice more deeply, take refuge in the Three Jewels, and become more intimate with not-knowing and impermanence. This Panel may shed some light on chaplaincy in the midst of a global disaster, and help all to see what it is like to work on the front lines of this pandemic, and how we might best respond.” — Rev. Jitsujo Gauthier, Ph.D.
Join us on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at 11am on Zoom for this special panel discussion hosted by the Buddhist Chaplaincy Department at University of the West about Buddhist Chaplains working in the field during the coronavirus outbreak. Chaplains are reckoning with the realities of social distancing that has caused an unprecedented disruption in the field of caregiving. Not only are chaplains bearing witness to the high level of grief and suffering of others, but they are dealing with their own experiences, too. This panel features Buddhist Chaplains who are currently either working in the field or enrolled in clinical pastoral education. Their direct experiences will provide first-hand reporting of how chaplaincy is evolving right before our eyes.
